About The Person Centered Approach
What is the Person Centered Approach (PCA)?
The Person Centered Approach is a set of skills by which a human being can relate as a person, to a person. The 4 core skills of the Person Centered Approach can be therapeutic when exhibited by the therapist in the presence of the client, or treated as teachable/learnable skills for the client to become independent in their use. The 4 core skills are Congruence, Empathic Listening, Empathic Following, and Unconditional Positive Regard.
This approach promotes authentic relating and manifesting ones self congruently.
Keynan Hobbs MSN,NP,PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse PRactitioner
My motivation to enter the mental health field was to serve my veteran community. I left the US Army in 1992 and entered art school. I didn’t have words to describe my combat experience, but could use art as an outlet for visual communication and processing.
When I decided to make a career change, I knew I wanted to use what I had learned from being in the military, seeing combat, and becoming a civilian again, to help my brothers and sisters facing the same challenges.
I entered nursing school at University of Pennsylvania and started a new mission to serve in a new way.
My primary modality for any mental health care is the Person Centered Approach (PCA). The core of Person Centered Approach is skillfully relating to a person, as a person. I do this with authenticity, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. In addition I am trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT), and a nationally certified CPT provider.
I’m here to lend my skills and energy to you answering the most important questions and overcoming the most difficult challenges you face.
